What is Corporate Social Responsibility?

What Is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)?

If you want to establish a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy for your company, it is important to understand what this entails:

CSR is known by many titles, from Philanthropy to Corporate Citizenship to Stakeholder Engagement, they all come to mean the same thing: an organization that is active in taking responsibility for the impact of its activities, as well as seeking to take additional actions (beyond anything that is statutory or complies with legislation) to improve the quality of life for its stakeholders (i.e. employees, their families, the community, customers, shareholders, etc.)

What is Corporate Social Responsibility?

There are many benefits that your company could receive from participating in CSR:

  • Trust
  • Demonstrated accountability
  • Good employee relations
  • Environmentally sustainable practices
  • Demonstrated corporate governance
  • Ethical principles & trading practices
  • Risk management
  • Value chain

Is incorporating CSR the right choice for your company?  Consider these questions:

  • Do you need to prevent or curtail negative media?
  • Are you truly leveraging your positive relations & reputation?
  • Would you like to engage your stakeholders as well as balance your business goals with their interests?
  • Would you like to demonstrate transparency, accountability, and good governance?
